Okay, I'll say it: willow is my favorite wood to turn.
Maybe it's because my father and I built a treehouse in the old willow tree when I was in the 6th grade. Perhaps, it's because it has amazing colors and striations. Or possibly, it's because each and every piece of willow must be sawn, milled, sanded and stabilized before using. Going through so many steps to makes you really appreciate the material...
One of the greatest benefits of cutting my own willow is that I can choose select pieces to meet my needs. One of my favorite pens, the 9-Year Anniversary Pen, features 9 separate pieces of willow that look dramatically different.
