Native to Malaysia, Amboyna is among the most splendid and sought-after woods in the world. Throughout the 20th century, spectacular Amboyna burls have been the wood of choice for high-end veneers and luxury woodcarvings. Now, under pressure from over-harvesting, Amboyna is restricted in many countries, and this pen was crafted from a set of six salvaged Amboyna pieces over a decade old. This is an incredible opportunity to own one of the world's most spectacular woods, accented by African Blackwood and Canary Wood caps.
Four pens were made, all from the same single cut of Amboyna. As pictured, all four pens are nearly identical, and you will receive one of the four pens shown.
Finish: Gloss– The crystal-clear gloss finish holds several distinct advantages over the satin finish. It is much more durable, and will never need refinishing. It provides a clearer, better lens for light-colored woods and layered woods of contrasting colors. For intricate designs with inlay or small pieces, the gloss coating acts as a barrier to prevent small parts from separating. The “smooth” option guarantees an ultra smooth finish, achieved by a two-stage finishing process with cyanoacrylate, sanded to 12,000 grit, then waxed and polished.
