Here in Boulder County, Colorado, we've endured several environmental hardships over the past few years. From devastating floods, to tree-crushing September snows, to 100 m.p.h. winds, our natural surroundings are constantly being challenged.
Rather than importing more exotic woods from Africa or South America, and rather than cutting down living trees, I've decided to start finding and recycling lumber from fallen trees. With a little care and effort, recycled logs turn into great little pens! They're stylish, comfortable, deliberate, and environmentally friendly. For every pen I make, that's one less piece of rotting wood clogging up local ditches and riverbeds, and one less piece of exotic lumber imported from across the globe.
Grain may vary from that shown in photo, but will be very similar. All willow pens come from the same salvage wood from the same tree.
Model: Slim Twist Pen
Pen Type: Ballpoint
Ink Color: Black
Finish: Satin – The low gloss, satin option is perfect for anyone who wants a truly authentic looking and feeling wooden pen. Any natural imperfections in the wood are removed through sanding and filling, resulting in a smooth and comfortable grip, while preserving the integrity and aesthetic of minimally treated wood. These pens are sealed using a durable friction polish, rated to withstand three to five years of normal use before refinishing.
I’m proud to offer custom laser engraving as an option for every pen in the shop. Engraving costs an addition $5 per item, and may delay shipping by a single day.
Laser engraving involves burning an image or text into the wood body of the pen. This process produces a black engraving. Naturally, a black engraving appears differently on light versus dark colored woods. As a general rule, lighter woods produce more brilliant and contrasting engravings than darker ones. Red, orange, yellow, white and light brown woods all engrave very clearly. Purple, dark brown, and black woods tend not to produce clear engravings, therefore I usually discourage the purchase of engraving for such woods.
