cocobolo wood pen

Collector Rollerball Pen, Spiral Cocobolo and Box Elder (549)

Regular price $189.99 Sale

This limited edition rollerball pen is predominately carved from king cocobolo wood, spiraled and highlighted by pieces of dyed green box elder burl wood. This pen features over 50 different pieces of cocobolo, some of which are dark heartwood and some of which are light sapwood. The green box elder burl wood was handpicked in Boulder, Colorado, prior to being dyed green with colored mica powder.

More about cocobolo:

Cocobolo Rosewood is in a league of its own. It smells of cinnamon when carved and changes colors as it ages, with each passing day adding depth and complexity of appearance. Mature Cocobolo radiates with oily orange and deep red, streaked by either black or white grain and sap. This is the one pen that will evolve with you, transforming from simply stunning to utterly breathtaking.

Only three of these pens were handcrafted in October of 2020.

Finish: Gloss – The crystal-clear gloss finish holds several distinct advantages over the satin finish. It is much more durable, and will never need refinishing. It provides a clearer, better lens for light-colored woods and layered woods of contrasting colors. For intricate designs with inlay or small pieces, the gloss coating acts as a barrier to prevent small parts from separating. The “smooth” option guarantees an ultra smooth finish, achieved by a two-stage finishing process with cyanoacrylate, sanded to 12,000 grit, then waxed and polished.
